Day 2: American Aphrodite. I'm building up more values in the underpainting and fussing with proportions. I intensified the colors, by adding some rich warm tones like orange, and added depth to the shadows with some subtle blues and greens.

The mural dedication on Sunday was a hit! Over a thousand people came out to hear free live music from over twenty musicians from the wall. Channel 8 also stopped by for a few interviews.

Juan and Mary live in Austin and are always out for a good time! They came to see the Austin Speedshop's live music show and visit the Saxon Pub, and were happy to hear about the show on Sunday. It should be fun!

Two of my buddies from Binswanger Glass, who have seen the progress since day one. See ya Sunday!

James lives in Austin and plays Bass. Thanks for stopping by and I'll see you Sunday!!

Theresa works at Binswanger glass and has become a good friend of mine while working on the mural. She has seen the progress from day one and was one of the first persons I ever met while working on the wall. She has been a loyal fan from the beginning and has taken good care of me, when I have been too busy to take care of myself. Thanks for the good food and worrying about me on the scaffold. It has been a lot of fun!

Roger lives in Houston. He was visiting Austin to take in the music of SXSW for inspiration, and had purchased a guitar from South Austin Music. He recognized Lloyd Maines and a few others from seeing them perform up in the pan handle of Texas some years ago. Good luck following your passion, brother!

Marilynn and Jeannie are sisters from Lubbock. They were out enjoying SXSW music and stopped by to talk for a bit. See you guys Sunday!

It's a snail.

Larry Wilson!! Can you place him?

Wednesday, March 07, 2007

Larry is an old college friend from Baylor and fraternity brother (TKE). He has a degree in telecommunications and has worked a lot on video editing and compositing, and is currently putting together an independent movie. He also agreed to put together a quicktime of the mural from start to finish, using my daily photographs. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
