Yesterday I began my first sketch of the Mermacrabicorn for the Radical Nautical show at Gallery Lombardi. After doodling a little bit, I opted for larger, bulkier claws and a more masculine mid section to offset the long proportions in the head. The front claw is going to be more bloated and have weathering marks to make him look a little more battle tested. I'm not completely happy the positioning of the arms and Ryan Parker, illustrator extroardinaire, thought I should open up his stance to see that more of his chest. The tail design was influenced by japanese mermaid drawings I discovered online. Overall I'm happy with the way it's progressing. What do you think? Opinions and suggestions are much appreciated.

I love it. Are you going to make the tail longer or bigger? He seems a little top heavy to me. But what do I know? Maybe I will go looking for mermacrabicorns tonight so we can have a live representation to sketch from. Do you think any live in the creek behind our houses?

yeah, i had wondered the same. thanks for the suggestion! i kind of liked the idea that he would be likely found in some ice cave deep in the water. perhaps protecting the old lost city of atlantis..
